hen Bob Reed says that Avtel can give you full service, he really means it.
Home theater and sound systems are just the beginning of what this electronics firm can do. Avtel can install hallway lights that automatically illuminate as you walk by, or window treatments that adjust automatically to reduce glare and protect your furniture and fine art. He can install a security system that instantly puts live video on your TV screen of somebody who has just pulled into your driveway. He can give you total control over the lighting, drapes, sound and temperature in every room of your house, via a single touchscreen panel. Or he can place rocks in your lawn that are actually tiny sub-woofers – perfect for background music during a patio party.
“We have systems that let you touch a single button and the shades will close, the lights will go down and your favorite movie starts playing on your

plasma TV,” said Reed, President of Avtel Inc. Home Systems. “We can hide speakers or security cameras in your trees. Then we can give you a control panel that lets you adjust the outdoor lighting, security cameras and patio music at the same time. The sky’s the limit.”
Reed is enthusiastic about his company’s capabilities, and he has good reason to be. Avtel works with only the most sophisticated electronic equipment from name brands such as Crestron, KEF, Runco and Fujitsu. Avtel’s employees are born tinkerers who love their work and are happy to share ideas. As electronics grow more complex every year, the staff at Avtel are the first to keep up with the changes.
The I-Pod phenomenon is one example. Avtel’s staff know how to make a home electronics system interface with an I-Pod so that clients can play their favorite music anywhere in the house. Avtel also offers DVD and CD management systems. “We can have one DVD player for the parents and one for the kids, with each device holding 800 to 1,000 DVDs,” Reed said. “And we can have audio CDs burned down to a hard drive, and then that hard drive is available anywhere in the house. You can create a digital archive of all of your favorite music.”
Big dreams are a major part of Avtel’s tradition. The company was founded by Scott Rose, an electronics buff and creative thinker. “Scott is an entrepreneur first and foremost, and he has great visions,” Reed said. “He’s willing to do everything you have to do to make something like this grow and take off. And he has hired the right people.”
Avtel prides itself on not just high-quality materials and consultations, but service that’s next to none. The company tests every system before it’s installed in a customer’s home, and if furniture or rack systems are

involved, the company builds them at its offices and integrates all the electronics.
“Because we can load the software ahead of time, check and test everything, and have all of the right parts and pieces together, we can get into a client’s home and get out a lot faster,” Reed said. “We don’t have to live with a client for the next six months and iron out the bugs.”
Avtel can perform services as simple as placing a flat-screen TV over a fireplace or as complicated as connecting an ultra-sophisticated telephone, cable and networking system that will link your home to any site in the world. Recently, the company embarked on a three-year project to install an elaborate electronics and security system in a 50,000-square-foot house in Inverness. There’s very little this company cannot, or will not, do.
“Without a doubt, the thing that sets us apart is the fact that we’re wiling to do any and all work,” Reed said. “For us, it’s not just a job – it’s a lot of fun.”
